Sheriffs Investigating Murder at Osmun Lake in Pontiac

INCIDENT: 15:39 June 7, 2018 Hrs. – City of Pontiac – Homicide Investigation / OCSO Forensic Laboratory Assist / OCSO Dive Team Activation – #18-106735

SUMMARY:        Deputies were dispatched to Stanley Park for suspicious circumstances.  A mother had called the Sheriff’s Office Operations Center to report her son and his cousin had discovered some bloody clothing while fishing in Osmun Lake.  Upon arrival Deputies discovered tire tracks entering the park from off of Cortwright St.  The tracks lead back to a pair of benches near the dock, where Deputies discovered evidence that the vehicle had struck one of the benches.  From the scene of the crash Deputies observed what appeared to be a blood trail and drag marks leading out onto the dock.  The blood trail ended on the dock where a section of the railing was missing.  Deputies also discovered the bloody clothing that had been reported in the weeds nearby, with what appeared to be a bullet hole.

While investigating this scene additional Deputies were dispatched to an address in the 200 block of Oliver on a report of a missing person.  Information obtained from this call indicated the missing person was last observed getting into a black Pontiac Grand Prix.  It became evident the car parts at the scene in Stanley Park had also come from a black Pontiac Grand Prix.

Investigators then received information that Waterford PD had recovered a stolen black Pontiac Grand Prix out of Scott Lake in their township earlier in the day.

Deputies on scene requested the assistance of the OCSO Forensic Science Lab to assist in processing the scene.  The OCSO Dive Team was also activated to search Osmun Lake for a possible victim.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  Detectives and OCSO Forensic Lab Investigators responded to the scene to aide in the investigation.  Upon arrival Sheriff’s Marine Unit Divers located an obviously deceased male in Osmun Lake adjacent to the area of the dock with the missing rail section.  The Oakland County Medical Examiner was notified and responded.  The deceased was subsequently identified as the subject reported missing from the Oliver address.  Further, when Deputies responded to Waterford PD to inspect the recovered Grand Prix it was found to have damage consistent with the parts recovered from Stanley Park.  Detectives are continuing the investigation and an autopsy is pending.

VICTIM INFORMATION:  20 year old male resident of Pontiac.
