Burglar Smashes Windows of Two Highland Businesses, Fails to Get ATMs

Highland Township, MI – Two Highland Township businesses had windows smashed and theft attempts made on ATMs. According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Department the break-ins happened around 4 am Saturday morning.  They releasesed the following reports:

INCIDENT: 04:15 hrs. – Highland Township – Commercial Breaking and Entering / OCSO Evidence Technician Assist – #18-88324

SUMMARY: Deputies responded to the 2000 block of Highland Rd. (Spring Valley Party Store) for an intrusion alarm called in by the alarm company. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered that front door had been forced open allowing access to the business. Deputies cleared the interior and discovered that someone may have attempted to remove the ATM from the building.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The business owner responded to the scene and advised that nothing appears to have been taken and that the ATM was secured to the floor. An OCSO Evidence Technician responded to process the scene. Surveillance footage shows that a single suspect attempted to remove the ATM by using a wheeled dolly. Deputies were unable to download the video and it will be made available by the owner on Monday. When he discovered that the ATM was anchored to the floor, the suspect fled the scene. Detectives were notified and will be continuing with the investigation and it appears to be the same suspect at the Pine Ridge Market.

INCIDENT: 03:54 hrs. – Highland Township – Commercial Breaking and Entering / OCSO Evidence Technician Assist – #18-88320

SUMMARY: Deputies responded to the 1000 block of S. Milford Rd. (Pine Ridge Market) for an intrusion alarm called in by the alarm company. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered that front door had been shattered allowing access to the business. Deputies cleared the interior and observed that the store’s ATM had been forced open.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The business owner responded to the scene and advised that nothing appears to have been taken and that the ATM did not contain any money. An OCSO Evidence Technician responded to process the scene. Surveillance footage may be available on Monday, but was not accessible at the time of the incident. Detectives were notified and will be continuing with the investigation.
