Six Week Workshop Helps People w/Chronic Health Conditions Starts May 14

TROY, MI  – For many adults living with a chronic or ongoing health condition, maintaining an active and fulfilling life is very difficult.  Play a more active role in your health care, and achieve greater wellness and well-being by participating in the next Personal Action Toward Health (PATH) six-week workshop set to begin Monday, May 14, 2018 at Disability Network Oakland and Macomb in Troy.

Health problems like arthritis, hypertension, lung disease, depression, fibromyalgia, and other chronic conditions cause frustration, pain, fatigue, and isolation.  The PATH workshop focuses on ways to deal with these problems on a daily basis, as well as appropriate exercise, use of medications, communicating with family, friends, and health professionals, nutrition, decision making, and how to evaluate new treatments.  Participants build skills, share experiences, and provide mutual support. Family, friends and caregivers are also welcome.

Facilitated by two trained leaders, the interactive workshop meets one day per week for two and a half hours, for six weeks. The licensed program was developed by Stanford University School of Medicine.  Stanford’s self-management education programs have been proven to significantly help people with chronic conditions, and will not conflict with existing programs or treatment.

The workshop meets from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, Mondays, May 14 through June 25, 2018. It is is sponsored by American House Troy Senior Living and Disability Network Oakland and Macomb, and includes the guide book: Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions. There is a one-time $5.00 fee. Disability Network Oakland and Macomb is located at 1709 John R Rd. in Troy. Registration is required. Call 586-268-4160.
