Interrupting Bias: Troy Alliance Against Hate Crimes Unity Forum April 26

Troy, MI – – The Troy Area Alliance Against Hate Crimes is hosting their 2nd Annual Unity Forum on Thursday, April 26 at 6pm at the Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois in Rooms 304 & 305.  The event is free and open to the public. This year’s theme, ‘Interrupting Bias,’ is aimed at building strategies and confidence of those witnessing incidences of bias either in person or online.

“We’ve been organizing against hate in our local community for years, but in this climate of fake news, national rhetoric of intolerance and intense polarization, this event is more important than ever,” said organization leader Jen Hilzinger.

“How many times have we walked away when if we’d known what to say, we could have made a difference for someone who was the target of someone else’s ignorance or hatred?  This doesn’t fall in the category of a hate crime, but these incidences can certainly lead to hate crimes and are happening at higher rates in our community locally.  Clearly, one is too many.  We can do better,” Hilzinger added.

Free childcare and food tastings provided at the event.  For more information, please contact Jen Hilzinger at 313.300.7292  More info: http://troyagainsthate.weebly.com/
