Reporter Food: Tempura Green Beans & Other New Items at Tai Fai
(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 9, 2018)
Oak Park, MI- “Tai Fai” means great and fast in Cantonese, and the Oak Park take-out spot lives up to its name. I’ve been a fan of Tai Fai since they opened in 203, with sushi favorites like their Oak Park Roll or Chicken Crunch Roll.
Recently they’ve added some new items to their menu that are worth spreading the word about.
To begin with there are now pot stickers, which you can order steamed or fried. Both ways are delicious, but I’d have to say the steamed is my preference because the dough is so delectable and soft.
I’ve also tried both the tempura crispy green beans and the tempura vegetables (which include hearty pieces of broccoli, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and asparagus). In both cases the items are coated with golden batter and fried. Words cannot even describe how decadent this is to my taste buds.
Other new items include wonton soup, crispy jumbo shrimp, fruity salsa salad and lettuce wraps. There are new sushi rolls as well. The Fuji Mountain roll has a soy paper wrap, spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber and topped off with shrimp and wasabi mayo. The Crazy Roll has BBQ eel, fried salmon skin, avocado, cucumber and cream cheese topped with masago.
For all items, old and new, check out their menu online at www.taifairestaurant.com. Tai Fai is located at 8505 W. 9 Mile Road in Oak Park.
