Garlic & Music Festival Could Come to Downtown Ferndale

(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 9, 2018)

Ferndale, MI –  The Garlic & Music Festival could be moving to Downtown Ferndale. City Council is expected to vote Ferndale City Council will vote Monday on whether to grant a special event permit to The Social Connection and Ultimate Fun Productions for the event to be held June 15-17. The Festival would close part of East Nine Mile Road and fill the parking lot between the library and businesses including Dino’s Lounge, The Emory, J’s and the Ringwald Theatre.

According to the memo in the April 9, 2018 council packet:

The “Garlic & Music Fest” is an outside festival featuring a weekend of tastes, scents, sights & sounds with deliciously garlic themed foods, live music, cold beer & summer cocktails, Kids Zone, and family fun.

The event producer is requesting the use of East 9 Mile Road, between Woodward to Bermuda, and the adjacent Library Parking Lot #10 as the event area and turn-off all sound systems beginning at 11:00 pm on Friday (06/15/18) and Saturday (06/16/18) in consideration of the surrounding residential areas.

As part of the recommendation, the Special Events Committee recommends a temporary modification to the sound level limits to accommodate the event’s live entertainment schedule rather than an exemption from the noise ordinance; and a License Agreement to sale alcoholic beverage sales on public property contingent upon the approval by the MLCC for a temporary liquor license. The License Agreement will be in partnership with a metro Detroit not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization along with local non-profit and social organizations.

The SEC [Special Events Committee]supports the approval of a Special Event Permit for the “Garlic & Music Fest” contingent upon the provisions stated in the recommended motion.
