Madison Heights, MI – Madison Heights residents of any age are invited to enter the “This is Home Photo Contest.”

The categories for the contest are: Nature, Places, Animals, People, Public Safety, Schools.

3 finalists from each category, as selected by a panel of professional photographers, will be formally recognized by the city council, honored at a public exhibit, and included in an 18-month city calendar that runs from 7/1/18 to 12/31/19. In addition, the top 3 winners overall will receive a cash prize of $250 (1st), $200 (2nd), or $150 (3rd), all generously donated by local businesses and residents.   The contest is hosted by the Madison Heights Arts Board, a recently created commission of resident volunteers.

“The arts board is our city’s newest board and we’re starting off strong with this contest as our 1st official program,” said Councilperson Mark Bliss who helped create the entity, and serves as the council liaison.  “I’m extremely proud of this board, their effort and passion for our mission have been amazing, and I’m excited that this photo contest will help to introduce both this board and our city’s new focus on the arts to the community. That’s why we chose to end this contest with 2 exhibits.

“The main awards ceremony and exhibit will take place in City Hall to highlight the city’s commitment to the arts. Plus, the board is doing a “pop-up” exhibit in the park during the fireworks festival that will bring the art out to where the people are. “Additionally, all of the winners will be highlighted in a new calendar that will serve as an additional fundraiser to support future arts programming. This is the start of something great for the City of Madison Heights and I encourage our residents to be a part of it by submitting their photos, attending the exhibits, and of course by picking up an amazing 18-month calendar filled with incredible photos that’s for a good cause!”

Photos can be those that have been taken in the past, anyplace in the city, at any time.  The submissions need to be full color with a resolution of at least 1536 x 1024 pixels.
