STEM Projects at Ferndale Library Start March, 27
FERNDALE, MI – Yes, children are our future–but the Ferndale Library is putting that platitude to a more mind-expanding use when they kick off the Full STEAM Ahead program. Geared towards 8-12-year-olds, this monthly workshop will spark imaginations and imbue appreciation for the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. The first STEAM program is Tue., Mar 27 at 6:30pm, exploring the world of “Ozobots,” tiny robots with light-emitting diodes that can teach kids the key concepts about coding.
Libraries can be natural and effective incubators for inspiration, which makes Ferndale’s Kids Corner an ideal launchpad for tomorrow’s potential tech pioneers. It can also be the starting point for a future math whiz, a graphic design artist, or a brilliant biologist. Children inclined toward tinkering, technology and gaming, or kids displaying a strong creative/crafty side will have their intuitive talents and curiosity engaged by Full STEAM Ahead!
Each month, children ages 8-12 are invited to register and join us for a hands-on adventure into STEAM (science, tech, engineering, arts, and math). Working together in small groups, each month’s STEAM-based project will promote collaboration, critical thinking, inquiry, and creativity! The library recently purchased some exciting new materials for these programs, including Makey Makey Keyboards, which allow almost anything you can think of to be made into a game controller or keyboard.
Space is limited, so registration is highly recommended. Register by calling 248-546-2504
