Deputies Prevent Suicide with Use of Taser in Brandon Twp.

Brandon Township, MI – INCIDENT:  22:46 hrs. – Brandon Township – Suicidal Subject / Taser Deployment – #18-41013  FROM DAY SHIFT:  03-04-2018, 07:00 hrs. THROUGH MIDNIGHT SHIFT:  03-05-2018, 07:00 hrs.

SUMMARY:  Deputies responded to the 4000 block of Fir Street for a suicidal subject who had cut his wrists and neck with a knife.  Upon arrival, Deputies located the subject outside of the residence.  The subject was observed bleeding from wounds to his wrists and neck.  The subject was still in possession of a 7 inch kitchen knife.  The subject told Deputies that he wanted to commit suicide and stated to them that he had a gun concealed on his person.  The subject stated that he wanted Deputies to shoot him.  Deputies ordered the subject to drop the

knife, but he refused to comply. His mother advised that he had consumed a fifth of rum and taken several unknown prescription pills.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  One of the Deputies was able to take a tactical position that allowed him to deploy a Taser which caused him to drop the knife and incapacitated the subject allowing Deputies to take the subject into protective custody.  He did not have a gun in his possession. Paramedics from the Brandon Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and tended to the subjects wounds.  Paramedics transported the subject to St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital where Deputies completed a petition for a psychiatric evaluation.  The subject was admitted to the hospital for a 72 hour commitment.

SUSPECT INFORMATION:  33 year old male, resident of Brandon Township.
