Compañeros de Flamenco in Highland March 11

Highland, MI – On Sunday March 11, 2018, 3:00 p.m., the Huron Valley Council for the Arts will present Compañeros de Flamenco – Bill Doub, guitarist, Holly Matthews and Michelle Millman, dancers – showcasing the exciting, rich musical history of Flamenco Espana.  The music is filled with energy, vitality, and multiculturalism.

Imagine warm, sunny beaches where people of many different cultures lived peacefully during the Age of Exploration (1500’s-1600’s). When people like Columbus were exploring and trading all over the world, bringing back ideas, instruments, silk cloth, and materials and assimilating them into their own cultures.  – The Gitanos (Gypsies), with roots in India, proud of their culture; The Moors (Africans), who danced to unusual rhythms; and the Hebrews (Jews) sharing the soulful melodies of the Middle Eastern tradition. Listen for the sound of the castanets, see the bright silk cloth of the costumes, watch as fans enhance and embellish the movement of the dances.  Open your eyes and ears; fill your senses with the happiness, sadness, frustration, anger, flirtation and joy we express through the dance and music of Flamenco Espana.

The concert will be held at 205 West Livingston Rd Highland MI and also features visual works from local artists.  Tickets are $15.00 each and may be purchased by visiting the HVCA , by calling (248) 889-8660 during our business hours (W-F 1-5pm; Sat 11a-4p), or at Main Street Art 432 N. Main St. Milford MI (Tu-Sat 10a-5p) or by visiting our website at www.huronvalleyarts.org
