Public Hearing Set for La Salette Property in Berkley Jan. 9

(City of Berkley, Jan. 6, 2018)

Berkley, MI – The Berkley Planning Commission is once again inviting resident feedback on the proposed Planned Unit Development at the former La Salette School property.

On January 9, 2018, the Berkley Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing at 7:30 p.m. to gather input on a proposal to develop apartment and townhouses at the corner of Coolidge Highway and Oxford.

The Public Hearing is a crucial step in allowing the Planning Commission to fulfill its role as a recommending body. Commissioners will continue their discussion on the merits of the application and, if they feel as though they have enough information, will make a recommendation to the City Council to either approve or deny the application.

The City Council makes the final determination on all Planned Unit Development applications.

“I am hoping that we can continue to receive productive and constructive feedback from the public on this proposal,” said Berkley City Manager Matt Baumgarten, who also noted that the project has undergone a number of reviews, including a complete revision of the site plan based on resident feedback.

Notices on the Public Hearing were mailed to residents and property owners within 300 feet of the proposed site and published in the Daily Tribune.

Comments regarding the proposed development may be made in person at the Public Hearing, or submitted in writing to the Building Department prior to the hearing.

In addition, residents can always provide feedback on any topic through the city’s website page. Plans for the proposed PUD are available online at or at the Building Department inside City Hall located at 3338 Coolidge Highway.
