(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 19, 2017)

Ferndale, MI – Firefighters from Ferndale, Royal Oak, Madison Heights and Hazel Park were called to Sam’s Ferndale Grill Monday at around 10:30 pm for a fire inside the building.  Smoke filled the air as firefighters worked to put the fire out at the 21468 Woodward Ave establishment.

There were no reported injuries or fatalities and the extent of the damage is not known. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firetrucks caused one lane of traffic on Woodward Avenue to be closed.  This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: Tuesday morning Fire Marshal Brian Batten responded to questions, stating “Fire at Sam’s Ferndale Grill is currently under investigation. They had a fire back in 2004 or 2005 that resulted in major damages and the owners rebuilt the restaurant. Last nights fire caused significant damage to the room of origin, and smoke damages throughout the restaurant. It is likely that the loss may exceed $50,000. No one was hurt and the restaurant was closed at the time of the fire.”
