Teen Sets Fire in Oak Park Library Restroom, Building Closed One Day

Oak Park, MI – The Oak Park Library is closed this evening due to a fire reportedly set by a teenager in the restroom.
Public Safety Chief Steve Cooper said “There was a small fire set in the in the men’s bathroom by a 14 year old male. The fire was extinguished immediately by Public Safety. Toilet paper was used to start the fire. There appears to be some minor smoke damage and damage to the toilet paper dispenser. The juvenile has been located and taken into custody. He is an Oak Park resident. We will be seeking the appropriate charges through the Oakland County Juvenile Court. The Library was immediately evacuated and no one was injured. The Library will be closed for the remainder of the evening.”
