Water Resource Commissioner Hosts Annual Stormwater Summit Oct. 20

Waterford, MI— On Friday, October 20, 2017, Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash, in partnership with Pure Oakland Water, will host the 5th Annual Stormwater Summit. The summit will begin at 9 a.m. at Lawrence Technological University, located at 21000 West Ten Mile Road, in Southfield, Michigan. To learn about the summit, go to www.pureoaklandwater.org/events. There is a $25 registration fee.

Southeast Michigan’s premiere stormwater summit will feature keynote speaker, Helen Noehammer from Ontario, Canada. She is the City of Mississauga’s Director of Transportation and Infrastructure Planning. Ms. Noehammer has championed the implementation of the largest municipal stormwater utility program in Canada. Her presentation will focus on how the City of Mississauga is responding to the effects of a changing climate, as well as other stormwater related issues.

Additional presentations will cover low impact development technologies, green infrastructure, funding opportunities, legislative updates, and asset management plans.  There will be a free learning session focused on how homeowners can practice green infrastructure on their own property at 3 p.m. The summit will end at 4 p.m.

“The long-term problems of Stormwater are best addressed through the less expensive green infrastructure technologies we will discuss here,” stated Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash.

The summit continues to attract elected officials, public works professionals, students, educators, environmentalists, contractors and stakeholders from all facets of the environmental and the engineering spectrum. The event is open to the public.
