Highland Celebrates First Fall Festival
(Becky Hammond, Oct. 9, 2017)
Highland Township, MI – Welcoming the shortening days and changing of the leaves, the inaugural Highland Fall Festival took place Saturday in Northwest Oakland County.
Among the festivities were locally adapted versions of traditional Scottish games, including tossing the corn shock, apple sling-shotting and hurling the squash. Richard Griffith of Haverhill Farms gave children pony rides while Mark Graski of Havabrit German Shepherds introduced them to the lovable pets and protectors.
A highlight of the day was the dancing done by Highland Dancers including Sophia Cummings and Miranda Stefanko. National Champion Scottish Highland Dancer Brenna Kilby also took the stage. Bagpiper Tyge Cawthon also make the crowds move with his music. And of course the community’s history was celebrated with a presentation by Gene Beach, President of the Highland Township Historical Society.
