2017 Candidate Interview: Pleasant Ridge Mayor Kurt Metzger
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 8, 2017)
Pleasant Ridge, MI – Pleasant Ridge Mayor Kurt Metzger is running unopposed for reelection on the Nov. 7, 2017 ballot. There is contention in the Commissioner’s race and there is a ballot initiative for police pension funding.
Mayor Metzger was first elected in 2013. His professional background is in data and statistics. He’s worked for the US Census Bureau, Wayne State University’s Michigan Metropolitan Information Center, United Way and Data Driven Detroit.
His work has given him both a local and regional perspective. “Part of my work career was working with a lot of cities and basically tracking the information, watching population trends, understanding how population trends effected various communities, looking at the very amazingly different, even though you have invisible borders from city to city to township, very different populations. Talking about issues around the icty of Detroit and regional issues that was always important to me. How do we start to work as a region and actually share the issues that confront all of us, and start to think about, let’s get beyond our own internal efforts…I look at Pleasant Ridge as part of a much larger context,” Mayor Metzger said.
