2017 Candidate Interview: Mattie McKinney Hatchett for Pontiac Library Board
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 8, 2017)
Pontiac, MI – Mattie McKinney Hatchett is one of ten people running for six seats on the Pontiac Library Board on Nov. 7. Also on the ballot are Aleda J. Brisbon, Vernita L. Duvall, Perry Earl, Jr., Janiece Gage, Kiesha Jones, Rosie Lance-Richardson, Holbert Maxey, Malkia M. Newman and Malanie Sharee Rutherford.
Hatchett served as County Commissioner for 12 years and as a Pontiac School Board Trustee for four years. Her professional background is as a teacher and administrator in Pontiac.
“There are three areas or priorities that I have,” she said. “One is in finance. I want to be sure that we stay financially stable, if possible do some fundraising that could possibly help us move to another site. I would like to see the library become a multi media center and offering a variety of experiences for the community. Secondly the library has need for capital improvement. It has some heating and cooling problems. And so I would like to see that corrected. And programming. I would like to see more varied programs.”
