2017 Candidate Interview: Perry Earl Jr. for Pontiac Library Board

2017 Candidate Interview: Perry Earl Jr. for Pontiac Library Board

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 30, 2017)

Pontiac, MI – Perry Earl Jr. is one of ten people running for six seats on the Pontiac Library Board on Nov. 7.  Also on the ballot are Aleda J. Brisbon, Vernita L. Duvall, Janiece Gage, Mattie McKinney Hatchett, Kiesha Jones, Rosie Lance-Richardson, Holbert Maxey, Malkia M. Newman and Malanie Sharee Rutherford.

Earl is a clothing designer who owns the Native Kings clothing line.  He grew up in Pontiac and attended Avondale High School.

“I think people should vote for me because I’m a consistent face in the neighborhood. I cater to the people always,” Earl said. “I’m about the community. I am about the youth. I am about building. I’m about creating a better economical system for my city in the next 10 years, by using the youth. Tell them, the next graduating 10 classes, hopefully in the next three to eight, we teach kids who are coming out of Pontiac schools to buy homes…. we teach them how to make an extra 20 K, or $20,000, at something they’re good at. Like if you’re good at T-shirts, if you’re good at photography, or you’re good at wrestling, how do you… take that and become a family man, if that’s what you want to do, an entrepreneur, a teacher, plus a job, whatever. I want more entrepreneurs in my city. I feel like I’m a person who has entrepreneur experience. And I’ve been a person that always showed my spiritual side… I’ve never been a religious guy but I’ve always been a spiritual guy. I always show how much it means to give back to city, to the community, stay humble, always show the most high love, always show everybody love. I think I’ve been the perfect role model, candidate, for just a strong leader.”
