Funds for Wheelchair Accessible Baseball Diamond

Orion Township, MI – Orion Township is pulling together to crowdfund a unique public playground called Orion on Deck – a baseball field designed for people with accessibility issues such as those in wheelchairs.
In partnership with Lake Orion Wiffleball Association, The Daisy Project, and Independence Township Parks, Recreation and Seniors and Patronicity there is an online campaign to raise the $150,000 needed for the project.
A private donor has pledged up to $50,000 in matching funds for donations given by Sept. 13 according to Township Supervisor Chris Barnett.
The field will be located at the north end of Friendship Park near the existing restroom facilities. Features will include: Poured-in-place rubberized infield surface material, Astroturf outfield Durable and permanent field bases, Additional parking area, Improved accessibility to the existing restroom facilities Benches, Bleachers and waste receptacles .
The park currently has an accessible merry go round, swing and other play equipment.
