Lake Orion Schools Closed Due to Runaway with Stolen Handgun

Lake Orion, MI- Today:
INCIDENT: 06:30 hrs. – Orion Township – Juvenile Runaway – Missing/Stolen Handgun – #17-110152
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to [Address removed by OC Times] for a report of a 16 year old male who ran away from home and his grandfather is missing a hand gun and ammunition. The juvenile is believed to have left the home between 4:30AM and 6:30AM on foot. No threats of violence or specific threats was learned during the interview with the grandfather. The juvenile was home for a weekend pass from Oakland County Children’s Village due to a similar incident in 2015 and incorrigibility. He does not have a history of violence or threats of violence. In the prior incident in 2015 in which he also stole a handgun the investigation revealed that he stole the handgun to sell for money. The juvenile indicated to his grandfather he wanted to try out for the Lake Orion football team. As a precautionary measure Deputies are providing extra patrols to the L.O. High School campus. He is believed to be on foot in the Orion Township area. Caution should be used when this person is seen and anyone who sees him should call 911.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The juvenile was entered into LEIN as missing and the handgun was entered as stolen. Sheriff’s Uniform Patrol Units are providing extra-patrols and detectives and patrol cars are searching for the juvenile who is believed to foot. He does not have a car.
The Lake Orion Schools is not in lock down- however the few summer classes scheduled have been cancelled. The Sheriff’s Office has no specific threats at this time. He was actually going to be released from the Children’s Village on Tuesday.

As a precaution, Lake Orion Schools is closing all buildings on Monday, June 19, 2017. If your children are participating in programs today, please pick them up as we are closing programs. Based on information received by the Oakland County Sheriff from the family of a former student, this student is reported as a runaway and may be in possession of a weapon. The student’s whereabouts are unknown at this time and there have been no threats made to any of our buildings or staff. This is simply a precautionary measure. An update will be provided when more information is available.
