(Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept, June 3, 2017)

Springfield Twp, MI – The Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies with the Springfield Township Substation in the investigation of a fatal traffic crash.  The traffic crash occurred on Ormond Road south of French Lane at approximately 1:30 a.m. this morning.

Michael Bailey, A 63 year old resident of Springfield Township, was driving a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Ormond Road, south of French Lane.  Mr. Bailey lost control of the Harley Davidson attempting to avoid a deer in the road and collided with the deer.  After the collision with the deer, the motorcycle went down on its side, ejecting Mr. Bailey, and came to rest after sliding down the road.

Mr. Bailey was lying on the road when a vehicle traveling southbound ran over his body.  That unknown vehicle fled the scene.  It is a white or silver vehicle with minor damage to the driver’s side of the front of it.  The Crash Reconstruction Unit is working to identify the make and model of that vehicle and will release more information when it is available.

Mr. Bailey was wearing a helmet.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the traffic crash.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs are a factor in this crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
