No Fee to Adopt Cats or Dogs on Saturday April 29

(Oakland County Animal Adoption Center, April 25, 2017)

Auburn Hills, Mich. – County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is urging Oakland County families to adopt a pet at Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center during the “Empty the Shelters” event on Saturday, April 29. The Bissell Pet Foundation will pay all adoption fees for a dog or cat.

“Empty the Shelters is an excellent opportunity to take home a new friend from our pet adoption center,” Patterson said. “Our goal is to adopt out as many dogs and cats as we can to loving families.”

Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center has dozens of dogs and cats available for adoption. Each pet available for adoption will be spayed or neutered; current on vaccinations; tested for heartworm, feline leukemia, and feline infectious peritonitis; and treated for parasites.

“We truly would like to see our pet adoption center emptied out on Saturday,” said Bob Gatt, manager of Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center. “We are grateful to the Bissell Pet Foundation for making this event possible.”

Anyone adopting a pet from the shelter must fill out an application and pass a simple adoption screening. Some other tips for individuals wishing to take part in this great offer from the Bissell Pet Foundation are:

Renters need approval from their landlord.

Other dogs in the household must be up to date on vaccinations and licensed.

Research which breed of pet will best fit one’s lifestyle.

Each pet adoption will come with an Adoptbox™, while supplies last. These boxes from the Bissell Pet Foundation will provide treats, toys and the tools to create the healthiest environment for a new pet.
