300 Needed to Carry Signs for MI Fallen Foot Float May 29 in Ferndale

Ferndale, MI – Volunteers are needed to take part in a solemn tradition to honor the Michigan women and men who have lost their lives in service.

The Michigan’s Fallen Foot Float is part of Ferndale’s annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade is in its 99th year and the human “foot float” is in its 9th.  People come from all over Michigan to participate.

Volunteers carry signs with the names and faces of those killed in service since the Afghan and Iraq wars.

Ideally there is one volunteer per sign, creating a living tribute to those who are no longer with their units, their families or their friends.

Volunteers should meet at 8:30am at West Maplehurst and Livernois on Monday, May 29.  This will give time to pick out signs and be positioned.

Ferndale’s Memorial Day Parade is the longest-running in Michigan and is a massive community event.

The parade kicks off at 10am, moving south on Woodward, west on W. 9 Mile and South on Livernois to end with a ceremony at Memorial Mall.

Volunteers should wear red, white or blue clothing, or military or patriotic clothing, without logos or slogans.

“We want to encourage groups of people to come out,” said Foot Float founder Larry Saville.  “We’d like to get every spot filled to show the greatest impact.”

Those who want to carry a specific sign may request to in advance.  Those with questions or who want to make a specific request or a financial donation can contact ferndalefootfloat@gmail.com or leave a phone message for Larry @ 248-397-8065,.
