2016 Candidate Interview John McCulloch for Oakland County Treasurer
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 31, 2016)
Royal Oak, MI – Republican John P. McCulloch is running for Oakland County Treasurer on the Nov. 8 ballot. He is running against the current County Treasurer, Democrat Andy Meisner.
McCulloch is a former County Commissioner representing Royal Oak and Troy for ten years, five of which he served as Chair. He was also the Water Resources Commissioner (former called Drain Commissioner) for 12 years. He also is a CPA.
He told oc115 “I think one of the concerns that residents have is that a lot of times elected officials don’t take ownership of their position or responsibilities. Certainly in my position as County Commissioner, as Water Resources Commissioner, I was dealing with millions and millions of dollars so I really look at it as if they were my dollars. So anything I could do to save cost, that ultimately save the taxpayers, that was my focus.”
In his interview with OC 115, McCulloch talked about being endorsed by County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and how as Commissioner he helped contribute to the County’s improved bond rating while also cutting taxes. He talked about adding transparency to the office of Treasurer by putting more information online.
