(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 28, 2016)

Clawson, MI – Democrat Cyndi Peltonen is running for State Representative of the 41st District, which includes Troy and Clawson.  The seat is currently held by Republican State Rust Belt Ad late FridaysRep. Martin Howrylak who is seeking reelection.

Peltonen is a teacher and music director and formerly owned a party store in Huntington Woods.  When asked why she is running she said “Because I believe that state government should serve the people. The governor and his cronies think they should run government like a business.UrbaneAd_04 I disagree. I think we should run government like a nonprofit. The goal of a business is to make a profit. And that’s what’s happening with the governor and his allies.

“Everything is being privatized and given to the profit makers. So instead of giving the money to the corporations for large tax breaks we should invest in our schools and our cities return the money to the people who actually sent the money there.”

In her interview with oc115, Peltonen talked about prioritizing school funding, roads and municipal revenue sharing. She also talked about her history of involvement with the schools, including 20 years on the Clawson School Board, volunteering with Youth Assistance and helping to form Clawson Early Childhood PTA.  And she talked about the importance of equality and women’s rights.
