Ferndale Voters Have Write-In Options for Library and School Boards
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Nov. 6, 2016)
Ferndale, MI – Looking at the ballot for Ferndale Public Library Board of Trustees, voters may notice there are six names running for seven seats. Mary Riegle has registered with the Clerk’s Office to be an official write-in candidate for that race. Riegle is Development and Policy Director at Downtown Detroit Partnership. When asked by Citizens for Fair Ferndale what makes her a good candidate for the Library Board, Riegle responded “I have over 17 years of nonprofit management experience, and have had to work with reduced budgets and staffing during the credit crisis. I understand what FADL has been through and I’d like to help create a plan that takes a thoughtful, realistic and strategic approach to sustainability. I also have two children who love the library, so I want to share their enthusiasm with others.”
Other candidates on the ballot are: Judeen Bartons, Richard Consul, Kelly Farrah, Adrienne Fazzola Gilmore, Amanda Hanlin, and Kevin Yezbick.
Former Ferndale School Board President Keith Warnick who lost in 2012, and again in 2014 is running as a write-in candidate in the Nov. 8 race. Warnick’s website www.keithwarnick.com is no longer active and he did not return our request for comment. Warnick served on the board from 2004-2012 and was President of the Board through the controversy involving former Superintendent Gary Meier’s use of Ferndale Schools resources for his own consulting business involving starting charter schools. Since Warnick’s departure, Ferndale School Board members have replaced the former Superintendent and gone through a restructuring process that included combing elementary school. According to Linkedin, Warnick is a business development consultant for a trucking and logistics company.
Mike Davission and Jackie Hart are on the ballot for the two open Ferndale School Board seats. Hart is currently on the school board after being appointed earlier this year to replace Raylon Leaks-May who moved on the serve on Ferndale City Council.
