Ferndale, MI – According to Katelyn Moore and Olivia Demarco of Hazel Park, the best part of Gilmore Girls is Luke’s Diner.

Demarco says it’s because “Luke is a hottie.”

But Moore said that it’s really the perfect setting where many of the famed 1990’s drama’s scenes took place.  “Most of the show took place there, because that’s where everyone would get together.  Luke’s Diner is where community happened.  Where you go in and everyone knows your name,” she said.

Nostalgia for the show spanned generations as ladies who were not yet born when the show premiered in 2000 were among those lined up outside of Chazzano Coffee to get a free cup of Luke’s Diner Coffee as part of a promotion put on by Netflix.

Judy_Palmer30yearsJulie Marcos, manager at Chazzano, went up and down the line giving updates and chatting with folks who were waiting over an hour to be part of the “Luke’s Diner” experience.

“Netflix is coming out with a special – Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and it premieres Nov. 25. So to help promote that they have taken over Chazzano’s and turned it into Luke’s Diner for the day.”

Inside the staff wore Luke’s Diner aprons and signature Luke’s Diner hats turned backwards. Chazzano was one of only 200 locations nationwide picked for the promo. Others in Michigan included Avalon Breads in Detroit, Always Brewing in Detroit, Urban Bean Co in Detroit, Strange Matter Coffee in Lansing and BIGGBY in Williamson.

Lori McGraw and her 15 year old twin daughters got up at dawn to drive from Lake Orion to Ferndale for the Luke’s Diner takeover. Megan and Erin McGraw have been binge-watching garden16-_-yvette-beausoleilthe show on Netflix in preparation for the Nov. 25 premiere.

“I really love the relationship between the mom and the daughter,” said Lori McGraw, who wore a black Luke’s Diner hoodie as she and the teens stood in the line that stretched past the back the building.  “I think it helps us to have that kind of mother daughter bond.  To be able to share the show with them is really nice.  I remember all this, and it’s fun to see them get into it.”

Inside Moore and Demarco grabbed their table and watched the line of people coming in and out of Chazzano’s.  “This is kind of like Luke’s Diner,” Demarco said.  “It’s a great place to be around other people and see who comes in.”
