Volunteers Needed to Plant Trees at

Jackson Park in Oak Park, Michigan on Saturday, September 10th

The city of Oak Park is partnering with ReLeaf Michigan to plant 16 trees on Saturday, September 10th in Jackson Park, at the corner of Kenwood and Ithaca streets.

Organizers are looking for volunteers to help out on Saturday morning for three hours.  No experience necessary!  Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing and bring a shovel and other appropriate tools.  The group will meet at Jackson Park at the corner of Kenwood and Ithaca at 8:45 a.m. to sign in and enjoy light refreshments.  ReLeaf Judy_Palmer30yearsMichigan will demonstrate how to properly plant a tree at 9:00 a.m.  The group will split up from there to do the plantings.  Sixteen large sized trees are being planted.  The varieties are River Birch, Hackberry, Littleleaf Linden and Gingko.

ReLeaf Michigan, a non-profit organization, partners with communities statewide to replenish our tree canopies through tree planting events.  Trees provide many benefits to communities such as shade, improving economic vitality of commercial districts, absorbing storm water, and reducing carbon in our atmosphere.  By partnering with ReLeaf Michigan, the city of Oak Park continues to build on an already successful forestry program that invests in the city’s future.  This planting is being sponsored by ReLeaf Michigan and the DNR – Urban and Community Forestry Program.

Special thanks to City officials and staff for their much appreciated collaboration to enhance this wonderful community.garden16_maurice_leising_october
