Madison Heights, MI – On August 11, 2016, the City of Madison Heights will host a Pokémon Go block party from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm.   Pokemon Go has become a viral sensation and the City of Madison Heights is getting in on the fun. The event will be hosted at various parks throughout the City, including Civic Center Park and Rosie’s Park and other locations to be determined.  Local community groups will provide food, drinks, activities and entertainment. Everyone is invited to join the fun and look for Pokémon and Pikachu.

In an e-mail, Mayor Pro Tem Mark Bliss said “It’s about bringing people together and reintroducing our parks to our residents. We hear so much in the media about how technology Chazzano03is pulling us apart. I want to use technology to bring our city closer together by hosting an event that anybody of any age can enjoy. Even those who don’t play the game would have fun at the event. However, if they’re looking to learn, we’ll have trainers at each park to help teach them the game.”

According to walkscore.com, the City of Madison Heights is one of the top walkable communities  in Michigan, making it an ideal setting for Pokemon Go. Bliss said. “The game is great because it’s specifically designed to get people off their couch and interacting with others in the real world. It encourages people to go to parks and businesses that they may not have visited before, and the extra walking benefits their health.”
