2016 Candidate Interview Nicole Bedi for State Rep. Dist. 40

(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 17, 2016)
Birmingham, MI – Democrat Nicole Bedi is running for State Representative for the 40th District which includes Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Hills and West Bloomfield. She is running against incumbent Republican Michael D. McCready. Neither have opponents in the primary, so they will face off on the Nov. 8 election.
Bedi got involved in politics when a doctor at a hospital where she worked was shot and killed. Her main desire is for common sense gun control solutions. When asked what other issues were important, Bedi said “I don’t see a lot of people with young families or women in the legislature. I don’t feel represented by those in Lansing because of that, so I really wanted to stand up for Michigan families. I want to protect women and their right to make reproductive choices with their doctors with their families. I want to support families so that they shouldn’t need to make choices between their careers and their families in terms of sick leave and paid family leave. I really think we have a lot to do in our education system.”
She also talked about skills she picked up through parenting, like patience and negotiation skills. Bedi is a dietician, and this is her first run for office.
