2016 Candidate Interview Michael D. Smith for Oakland County Clerk and Register of Deeds (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 15, 2016)
White Lake Township, MI – Democrat Michael D. Smith is running for Oakland County Clerk Register of Deeds. He is running in the primary against incumbent Lisa Brown. The winner of the Democratic primary will go on to face the Republican victor, either Bill Bullard or Tina Creek Barton.
Smith is City Clerk for Clawson. Prior to that he worked at the Oakland County Clerk’s Office. He also runs the City of Clawson website, social media and “See Click Fix: app that allows residents to alert the city to issues such as pot holes or broken lights.
“I kind of realized I really want to be an advocate for this profession,” Smith said. “I really want to fight for transparency and fraud protection. I really want to decrease in-line wait time because time is important to people, to residents. And if there’s other initiatives, more technology, increasing online services… Really focusing on environmentally friendly delivery systems so we can increase the online initiatives and really get that outreach to the residents to let them know what type of services Oakland County provides. That’s the biggest thing.”
In his interview with oc115, Smith talked about wanting to fight for early voting, no-reason absentee voting, setting up an independent redistricting commission and working to figure out ways to fund the new election equipment that is needed through the state.
