Pontiac, MI – Oak Hill Cemetery is a local historic gem that is getting a lot of buzz in the Pontiac community. In addition to a crowdfunding campaign launched to rehabilitate the site, Better Pontiac, a local nonprofit, is organizing the 2016 Oak Hill Cemetery Walk. Part scenic tour, part theatrical performance, the Cemetery Walk will feature actors portraying historic people in the Pontiac community along a guided path through the cemetery grounds.

The actors are affiliated with Pontiac Theatre IV, a community theatre that utilizes Pontiac DDAnew01High School for its performances. Featured will be notable figures in Pontiac’s history including John J. Bagley, 16th Governor of Michigan, educator and social reformer Dorothea Dix, and the first Superintendent of the Eastern Michigan Asylum Dr. Henry Mills Hurd. Other historic figures portrayed are Elijah Myers, William Osmun, and many others.

The proceeds of the event will be dedicated to an Oak Hill Fund managed by Better Pontiac, which is dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the cemetery. The Cemetery Walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2016. There are tours at 3:00 P.M., 4:00 P.M., and 5:00 P.M. Oak Hill is located at 216 University Drive, Pontiac, MI 48324. Admission is $15.00 per person.Chamber_AD2_rainbowrun
