(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 11, 2016)

Ferndale, MI – Craig Covey, who has served as a Councilperson and Mayor of Ferndale and a County Commissioner, is running as a Democrat for Oakland County Sheriff against incumbent Republican Sheriff Mike Bouchard.  Neither has an opponent in the primary so they will face each other on the Nov. 8 ballot.

FerndalePrideAD_resized_adIt’s an elected position. It’s about civilian leadership.  It is about administrative ability. And I have managed organizations. I have run groups.  They put me in charge of committees as small as half a dozen to, like I said, groups of hundreds of people, and I’ve put on events with thousands of people. So I have excellent administrative experience.  And the key to good leadership is setting the tone.  It’s working with the people and its surrounding yourself with people who are smarter than you and I’ve done that for a long time too,” Covey said.

In his interview with oc115, Covey also talked about his experience with the local police when he held office in Ferndale.  He also talked about the importance of diversity in police work, about what his priorities would be as Sheriff, including putting marijuana possession at the bottom of the priority list.  He also talked about his history of activism, including for LGBT issues, environmental issues and HIV/AIDS.
