FERNDALE, MI –You’ll often see staff at Ferndale Library wearing black t-shirts emblazoned with the motto, “Libraries Rock” as they serve the public. One of the reasons the library has this reputation is because of the FADL’s commitment to regular live music events. The Start Here Saturday series (formerly First Stop Friday), has been running consistently for over five years. On May 7, the library will keep that tradition going with a night of music from two all female bands from the Metro Detroit Area: Soul Pepper and Agenda 21.

The two acts playing on May 7 are unique in FADL show history: the library has never hosted m1_two tonetwo all-female acts before. Soul Pepper blends an eclectic fusion of soul, rock and jazz led by singer/guitarist, Tara Corrado. This woman’s powerhouse collaborative blends a funky synthesis of many different styles and defies simple categorization. Golden nectar for your ears!

Agenda 21 blend post-punk, neo-reggae riffs and jangly lo-fi pop as a zesty, stripped down trio. With charm and bravado, they reach back to the genre-defiant sounds of The Slits and the ragged style of The Raincoats.

After the May 7 show, the series will go on hiatus for the summer, but don’t worry, music fans, the library will start up its Summer Concert Series in June. That series will feature one musical act playing on a Tuesday evening in June, July and  August while the library is open. Stay tuned for a schedule.DDAnew01

The library closes at 5pm on May 7 but will reopen at 7 PM for concert audiences.

Start HERE Saturdays are free and open to all ages, with light refreshments provided.
