NOVI, MI – You’re invited to share your views and ideas on how City of Novi Older Adult Services (OAS) can serve the 55+ population now and in the future. As a resident, your dedication to Novi is essential to building a vibrant community. You can help influence the future and determine how services are delivered to older adults.

More than half of all Baby Boomers are now 50 and older and the United States is becoming increasingly populated by older adults. One-third of all Americans reached this senior milestone by 2010. Novi’s population reflects this demographic change. According to the U.S. ctechadCensus Bureau’s 2012 population data, there were estimated to be 12,480 people 55 or older living in Novi. According to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, Novi households with one or more person 65 or older increased by more than 70 percent from 2000 to 2010.

Beginning in 2008, to more effectively serve Novi’s older adults, two three-year Strategic Plans have been implemented by OAS. Providing valuable guidance, these plans have been the road map to progressively and resourcefully addressing trends, social and economic issues. Through implementation of the plan’s action steps, OAS has widened its audience; promoted healthy, active lifestyles; created a sense of community; enhanced social service-focused programming; improved transportation services; and expanded health and wellness opportunities. It is time to move forward with creation of the 2016-2021 OAS Strategic Plan. Moving to a five-year plan will provide the opportunity to measure the results of the action steps and additional time to make adjustments as needed.Schrock2015_ad_twocities

The City of Novi Older Adult Services and the Older Adult Services Advisory Board invites residents of all ages to participate in Community Conversations to discuss programming, services, facilities, aging, marketing, innovative ideas and challenges those 55+ want or encounter. Attendees will also help identify strengths and articulate specific needs now and into the future. This process, along with an input survey, will assist in creating a new five-year Strategic Plan that will provide guidance to the staff of Older Adult Services as Novi moves into the third decade of the 21st century. Light refreshments will be provided.

Be part of the Community Conversation. Please plan to attend one of these meetings:

~ Wednesday, April 20 at 7pm @ Novi Civic Center, 45175 Ten Mile Road

~ Thursday, April 21 at 2pm @ Meadowbrook Activity Center, 25075 Meadowbrook Road

~Friday, April 22 at 2pm @ Fox Run, 41000 W. Thirteen Mile Road
