Visit Japan at the Orion Township Public Library

Lake Orion, MI – The Friends of the Orion Township Public Library will hold their fourth annual cultural fundraiser on Saturday, April 30, from 7:00p to 10:00p at the library. This year’s event is Passport to Spring: Japan, A Festival of Seasons. The library will be decorated to celebrate the Japanese seasons and their festivals. Come enjoy traditional music, food, and more!

The Consulate General of Japan in Detroit will be providing many cultural items for display and decoration. The Japan Society of Detroit Women’s Club will host traditional tea ctechadceremonies and provide a kimono fashion show. Japanese paper folding art (origami), and Japanese flower arranging (ikebana) will be demonstrated. Taiko drummers will perform and provide basic lessons for interested guests. There will be traditional Japanese music, sushi and martial arts demonstrations, art, a silent auction and more.

One alcoholic beverage and a bento box filled with an assortment of Japanese food will be included in the ticket price. Additional Japanese food and drink will be available to purchase.

Tickets for the festival will be on sale at the library and online at orionlibrary.org/friends from March 1 through Thursday, April 28 at 9:00p, at a cost of $40/ticket.  There will be no ticket sales that Friday or Saturday, but a limited amount of tickets will be available to purchase at the door for $50/ticket.  Due to alcohol being served, this is an adult only event.

Tea ceremony tickets are $10 and only available at the library.  There will be two seatings for garden16_monte_albertthe tea ceremony, at 7:45p and 9:15p, with a total of 40 tickets available.  All proceeds support the Orion Township Public Library.

The Friends of the Orion Township Library is a 501(c)3 organization whose volunteer members are dedicated to supporting and improving the library by raising funds for services, programs, projects, and resources not provided for by the general library budget.
