Five People Dead in Novi House Fire

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 31, 2016)

Novi, MI – Five people were found dead in a house on Mystic Forest Drive in Novi Sunday morning. The cause of the fire is not known at this time, nor is the cause of death.  The fire has been extinguished and investigators are working to figure out what happened.

Director of Public Safety David Molloy told The Detroit News that the victims were in their 20s and 30s and likely all worked at the same restaurant.  He said that the fire likely began in the basement where the five of them were living. Rescue workers attempted CPR on two of the victims, but they did not survive.

UPDATE:  The Detroit Free Press reported Monday that the five victims had come to the US from Mexico and it has yet to be determined if they had authorization to be in the country.  The victims lived in the basement of the home and worked at nearby Kim’s Garden Restaurant.
