Interview: Brian Hartwell Candidate for Madison Heights Mayor 2015 (video)
(C. Proxmire, Sept. 13, 2015)
After nearly eight years of serving on City Council for Madison Heights, including almost four as Mayor Pro Tem, Brian Hartwell has decided to run for Mayor. He is running against Mayor Edward Swanson, who has been Mayor for nearly 16 years. In order to run for Mayor, Hartwell had to resign from his current position, per the City Charter.
In his interview with oc115, Hartwell talked about community service projects that have been important to him, including a free legal clinic for senior citizens, organizing groups to help clear snow from bus stops, fighting against dumping of waste at the old incinerator site, and working with Home Depot to renovate the Senior Center.
Hartwell grew up in Madison Heights and attended both Madison and Lamphere Schools, graduating from the latter. He studied politics and economics and earned his law degree from the University of Detroit before opening his own practice in Madison Heights.
