(SPL Press release, Aug. 10, 2015)

The Southfield Public Library made its first ever music video, Dear Southfield Patron! Dear Southfield Patron is based on Meghan Trainor’s song, Dear Future Husband and showcases the staff and library board from the Southfield Library along with students from Southfield High School.

“The idea behind the music video was to connect and communicate with our community in a fun, cheerful and energetic way,” said Katie Rothley, Adult Services Librarian and one of the lead singers.

SCOTT WRIGHT AD basic tall“This video showcases what the library offers our community in a fun, fresh manner.  We want to show that Southfield Public Library is not your grandmother’s library – we’ve changed to remain relevant in today’s society.  We want to encourage people of all ages to visit not just our library, but their own library wherever they may live!  Southfield is not the first to adopt this method of PR and we won’t be the last, but we had a heckuva lot of fun doing it!  We hope this is only our first effort too,” said David Ewick, City Librarian and one of the lead singers.

The production of the video was a collaborative effort between the Library, the Boys and Girls Club Southfield’s FieldZone, Southfield Multimedia Services (Cable 15), Southfield High School and other members of the community.  The video shows the fun side of the library with lots of different costumes, computer magic, storytime fun, a snoring dragon, helpful librarians and, of course, books.seed8453274382_Pamela Williams

I hope it results in encouraging anyone who sees it to visit our library as we have a lot to offer.” -Katie Rothley.
