A pair of Royal Oak Police officers did some special police work this Independence Day. They were called to the corner of Normandy and Seminole because some ducklings had fallen into a sewer drain. Neighbors met Officer Bruce Handrinos and Officer Keith Bierenga to figure out how to save the little creatures.

Initial rescue attempts made the ducklings hide deeper in the drain, but they coaxed the mother duck to come to the edge. When the ducklings heard her voice, they swam over and the officers were able to scoop them up!

The mother and five ducklings waddled off, apparently unharmed.
