(Event listing)

This summer, you can take a cultural journey around the world from inside the Ferndale Library through the mesmerizing artwork of studio artist Boisali Biswas. The West Bloomfield-based artist, specializing in mixed-media fibers, brings to life her deep-rooted attachment to the traditional art of India (where she was born and raised) through a vibrant blend of dreamlike colors.

On July 9, at 7pm, the Ferndale Area District Library’s Art & Exhibition Committee hosts a Ferndale 115_FFLreception for Biswas’ show, hanging in the library’s community room through August 8.

Biswas has had a lifelong fascination with ethnic and indigenous art forms from around the world, with her stylization being inspired, in part, by their captivating traditional patterns and rich array of colors. Her formative years were spent studying at the renowned Visva-Bharti International University, establishing a profound harmony with nature that is brought to life with intricate and enticing designs upon her floridly colored fabrics.

Living in the US for more than two decades now, Biswas has adapted her earlier inspirations to Western styles and techniques, forging a breathtaking blend into a cauldron of multicultural assemblages that are very unique and a feast for the eyes.
