John Sobczark’s Fiery Photographs – Exhibit Reception May 14

John Sobczark’s Fiery Photographs – Exhibit
Reception May 14
(FADL Press Release, May 5, 2015)
These pics should certainly spark some interest. The artful flare and glowing intensities of the Detroit Fire Guild performers are framed by the keen eye of local photographer John Sobczak for the Ferndale Library’s Art & Exhibition Committee’s latest commissioned exhibit.
The library hosts a reception for Sobczak’s framed photography on May 14, from 6 – 8 PM. The Exhibit runs from May 4 – May 28, featured in the library’s Community Room.
The images, aluminized metal photographic prints, are a series of dynamic and colorful portraits of local fire and circus performance artists. The collective of talented fire performers has since retired their regular performances, so this is a rare chance to glimpse their daring feats of flame.
Sobczak has been a professional photographer based in Detroit for over 30 years. His images have been featured in Time, Newsweek, USA Today and various local publications like HOUR Detroit and the Metro Times. Some of his work is part of the permanent collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts. He has released four books, including A Motor City Year.
