Abundance, Dewdrops and Other Poems by Jim Pool
(Jim Pool, April 23, 2015)
Abundance
Cornucopias of companionship
Feasts of fellowship, forgiveness and faith
Courses of children laughing
Sundaes of smiles
Joy dripping down the chin
Contentedness
The abundance of …
A hummingbird
A winter rose
A moment shared
Ten fingers and ten toes
The abundance of blue skies on a cloudy day
Life 201
In the school of life
There is a course called
Hardship.
An elective we might wish it to be
But it’s a pre-req for maturity.
Learning to be thankful for this teacher.
Unnamed
Each new day
My life is clay
Wetted by the water of love
Dew of mercy from above
Malleable once again
Unnamed
Joy comes in small moments,
Fleeting moments –
Butterfly landing, wind dancing,
Loved one laughing,
Simply sitting and life tasting –
That busyness misses,
Scarcity diminishes,
And gratitude celebrates.
Consider the Daffodils
Consider the daffodils
How they weathered the ills
That the storm mills
Threw at them.
Spring cold,
Record-setting snow,
Threatened their grow,
To stymie them.
Daffodils retreated within,
Drew strength from the bulb,
Persevered,
And thrived.
Dewdrops
The neighbor’s lawn is shining.
Little gossamer diamonds
Sparkling in the thin, clear light
Of morning.
Treasure from the emptied pockets
Of playful garden gnomes.
Geary Park
The boughs bend but they do not break
The leaves turn but it does not fear
Even in suffering there can be beauty
The leaves fall but it does not die
Spring awaits
Good Neighbors
Ferndale.
What more could be said
About this fashionable,
Fabulous, friendly
City of Eagles?
Truly a treasure at the end of this
Rainbow city.
A pot of gold and sparkling gems
Of all shapes and sizes and colors.
Ferndale’s riches are its people:
Passionate for all things crafted locally;
Committed to community, justice, service
And giving all an equal chance.
Truly a city of
Good neighbors.
