Voters in Oak Park are facing two big decisions on the special election day of May 5. Locally they will decide if they would like to legalize the sale of liquor by the glass. And for the statewide portion they’ll vote on Proposal One, for road funding.

On March 30 the first forum was held, with State Representative Robert Wittenberg and a guest from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) who spoke about Proposal 15-1 (road seed_dc_019_kurt_prettenhofer_june2015tax). Also there was representation from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to answer questions about the local proposal to allow the sale of spirits and mixed spirits in restaurants.

City Manager Erik Tungate spoke about how the addition of mixed drinks to restaurants’ menus can serve as an economic development tool, attracting patrons and increasing the city’s tax base.

The City will host one more Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, 6pm, City Hall Council Chambers 14000 Oak Park Blvd. Special Guest: Robert Wittenberg, State Representative 27th House District and representatives from MDOT and MI Liquor Control Commission.
