The Stars Come Out for 2015 FEF Oscar Fundraiser
(C. Proxmire, March 14, 2015)
The stars came out for the annual Ferndale Education Foundation fundraiser on March 13. The theme of the red-carpet gala was the Oscars, with attendees dressed as movie characters. Tables paid homage to famous flicks like Cleopatra, West Side Story, Cleopatra, and The Matrix. A table for Jurassic Park was full of explorers, while folks from Pleasant Ridge enjoyed their meal with a horse-head centerpiece in honor of the Godfather.
The Forest Gump table had it’s namesake in at least three forms, with the long-haired running Forest circling the room. And the table with the most laughs by far was the South Park table with the perfectly-made-up Mrs. Garrison joined by Kyle’s Canadian-hating mom and Kenny’s Parents, along with Mr. Hankey and of course Stan and Kyle.
The evening is FEF’s largest fundraiser each year, with money going for grants for teachers and other programs that help students in the district. Money comes not only from ticket sales but from auction items donated by individuals and businesses. Realtor Jim Shaffer and Galloway and Collens PLLC were the red carpet sponsors of the event. Many other businesses contributed as well.
The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Barb Landry for her role at the Good Witch Glenda of the Wizard of Oz, who coordinated the event.
