Breaking & Entering

3200 block of Greenfield, 2-16-15, 8:00 a.m. – 4:54 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown

suspect attempted to break into her apartment. The suspect damaged the door lock but was

unable to gain entry. 15-7384

4300 Rochester (In Style Custom Cabinets), 2-26-15 – 2-27-15, 7:00 p.m. – 5:52 a.m.: Thesidebar012stairs

Royal Oak Fire and Police Departments responded to a structure fire at this business. Further

investigation revealed the business had been broken into with several items taken prior to the

fire being reported. This case is currently under investigation in conjunction with Oakland County

Arson Investigations Unit. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. 15-7438


25352 Woodward (LA Fitness), 2-27-15, 10:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.: Complainant reported he left

his car and house keys unsecured in the men’s locker room. When he returned he discovered

they were stolen by an unknown suspect. 15-7472

3200 block of Sylvan, 2-16-15 – 2-23-15, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Complainant reported an

unknown suspect stole an undisclosed amount of currency from a safe in his home. Officers711 ad slurpee

checked the residence and did not find any evidence of a break in. The homeowner hired

contractors to renovate an area of his home during the time period of the theft. 15-7655

700 block of N. Edison, 2-27-15 – 2-28-15, 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Complainant reported he left

his wallet unsecured in his room. When he returned he discovered an unknown suspect had

stolen it. The residence is shared by multiple tenants. 15-7658

Additional Incidents and Information

Fatal Accident: On March 1, 2015, at 2:54 p.m., 85-year-old Farmington Hills resident, Mary

Riordan, drove through a red light on northbound Woodward at Thirteen Mile. When she entered

the intersection she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Thirteen Mile. As a result of

the accident, Mrs. Riordan was seriously injured. She was transported to William BeaumontHowesLocation

Hospital by the Royal Oak Fire Department for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical

personnel she died from the injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and were not transported to

the hospital. The intersection was partially closed for several hours while investigators from the

Royal Oak Police Department and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office conducted an

Now that winter is here residents and visitors are reminded of Royal Oak’s Snow Emergency

Ordinance. Snow Emergency conditions are generally defined as a snowfall of four inches or

more and will remain in effect until your street has been plowed. All vehicles on residentialseed22_Angela_Fisher

streets are to be removed or will be ticketed or towed. Vehicles are to remain off the streets until

plow trucks have gone through the area. Once a snow emergency is called and plowing begins,

it takes approximately 24-36 hours to plow all city streets, depending on how much snow has

fallen. Residents may call the Snow Emergency Hotline, 246-3442, to find out if a snow

emergency is in effect or go to for more information.
