Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Saturday, January 17th at 1 PM in the Kids Corner
A toy really is a child’s first learning tool, just as a parent is a child’s first teacher. Ferndale Public Library is a welcome space for learners of all ages, so it is only fitting that we house information as well as various learning tools for the youngest patrons.

On Saturday, January 17 at 1 pm, Ferndale Library hosts a grand opening and ribbon cutting of our new Early Learning Play Area in the Kids’ Corner. This space, beside the ceiling-high seed024_jeannie_davis_from_loriwindows looking out onto the courtyard, will contain learning toys, dramatic play options and children-sized furniture, all features that can foster early literacy skills.

This Early Learn & Play area is designed for families with small children, but local preschool and daycare teachers/providers as well as all early learning advocates and professionals should consider attending.

The Play Area is optimally located in a safe, fun and inviting space for Ferndale’s youngest patrons.  Kids and families can explore, refine their gross and fine motor skills by manipulating toys, explore the dramatic play components, or build sequences with new blocks. Even infants can explore and learn at the library with soft sided building blocks, knobby puzzles and more.modern natural baby inprogress

Ashley Lehman, Ferndale Library’s Head Librarian in Youth Services wants to focus on early literacy, the practice and skills acquired before a child even learns to read. The library hopes to prepare our young community to become better readers and in turn, better learners, providing a exceedingly fulfilling literary experience for family interactions. These hands on activities will also promote social and face to face interaction between young children, their peers, and their caregivers.

Many thanks to the The Friends of the Ferndale Library, who have provided the funding for the new early learning area.
