Driver Stopped on 696 Near Scotia Flees Dangerously on Foot, Heroin Use Suspected

Location: Westbound I-696 near Scotia Drive, City of Hunting Woods
Summary: Troopers while driving westbound on I-696 near Scotia was forced to change lanes to avoid being struck by 2004 Dodge Stratus. The driver, a 21 year old male from Farmington Hills, was stopped and during the interview it was determined that he may be under the influence of narcotics. The trooper returned to the vehicle to verify the driver’s identity when the driver took off from his vehicle on foot crossing both the west and eastbound lanes of I696 when the trooper was able to take him into custody. Further investigation revealed that the driver ran because he believed that he may be under the influence of heroin. A blood draw was conducted for presence of drugs at a local hospital and the driver was lodged at the Oakland County Jail. Investigation continues pending lab results.
