Another Young Child Burned by Bath Water

INCIDENT: 07:07 hrs. – Dec 22- City of Pontiac – Child Neglect Investigation – # 14-200452
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to the 10 block of Starlite Lane for a report of a child who had been burned by scalding water in the bathtub. Upon arrival, Deputies observed that the child had obvious burns on the lower half of his body and was then transported to Royal Oak Beaumont. The caller stated that she and her boyfriend had been babysitting the child for a relative. The boyfriend stated that he had placed the child in the bathtub with warm water and had left the bathroom. The boyfriend stated that when he was away from the bathroom the child must have turned on the hot water. The boyfriend stated that when he returned to the bathroom he noticed the burns and attempted to give aid.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The child was transported to Detroit Children’s Hospital from Royal Oak Beaumont; the staff at Beaumont stated that the burns were potentially life-threatening. Detectives responded and began their investigation. The mother of the child was contacted in West Virginia via telephone and is returning home. Two other children were in the home at the time of the incident and they were turned over to Child Protective Services.
VICTIM, INFORMATION: 3 year old male, resident of Pontiac.
SUSPECT INFORMATION: 21 year old male, resident of Pontiac.
