2014 Ferndale Ice Festival
(C. Proxmire, Dec. 14, 2014)
The sidewalks of Downtown Ferndale were decked with ice sculptures, and children got their photos taken with Santa as part of the annual Ferndale Ice Festival on Saturday.
The theme this year was “wild things”, and the sculptures had all kinds. From hummingbirds and butterflies to reindeer and an elk, an eagle at City Hall and even Willie Nelson at Imperial, the city’s wild side showed what the locals call “Ferndale Normal.”
Danny’s Pub’s leprechaun was also a hit, as well as the appropriately-selected craw-fish in front of Howe’s Bayou.
The festival was featured on news programs through the day,and helped bring shoppers to the stores and restaurants that Ferndale is best known for. Ice carving demonstrations, a hayride and music from Ferndale Independent Percussion students also added to the spirit of the day.
Next up for Downtown Ferndale is Merry Moonlight Madness, a late night shopping experience on Dec. 18. For more information see http://www.downtownferndale.com/news-events/calendar.html?year=2014&month=12&day=18#evt-44.
